The best beauty advice I can give is to moisturize skin daily!
In last month’s blog post I shared vital information about sunscreen that every person should be aware of.
However, human skin is very fragile and highly susceptible to the sun’s UV rays. So, while the sun is absolutely amazing, it is also as equally dangerous.

This month I’m delving deeper into the importance of creating a daily skincare routine. One that centers around actively hydrating and moisturizing skin.
Did you know that skin is the human body’s largest organ?
According to National Geographic, the skin of an average adult has a surface area of over 21 square feet.
On a day-to-day basis, our skin is exposed to millions of toxins and pollutants, which can have negative long term effects on our skin’s youth and elasticity.
How To Moisturize and Maintain Healthy Skin
Moisturizing daily is vital to maintain healthy skin for three primary reasons:
- Keeping skin youthful
- Reducing skin problems
- Concealing skin blemishes
The best time to moisturize your skin is after taking a shower or bath, shaving and exfoliating.
Reason being, hot water strips the skin of moisture and essential oils. Therefore, using moisturizers or lotions that contain SPF 15 and the following nutrients are of great importance:
- Vitamin A and B5 – these vitamins increase firmness and restore moisture levels.
- Vitamin C and E – these vitamins are considered anti-oxidants and protect the formation of new skin and fight against skin damage.

In 2011, Consumer Reports released their “lotion buying guide,” which detailed low-cost body lotions available at local drug stores such as CVS, Walgreens and Target.
Their findings suggested that Cetaphil and Vaseline were the most cost effective brands and left the skin feeling moist. Eucerin was also a high contender for keeping the skin moist.
Other tips to maintaining healthy skin are:
- Don’t smoke – smoking speeds up the skin’s aging process and contributes to wrinkles, reports the Mayo Clinic.
- Drink plenty of water – water helps to flush the toxins from your body and helps your body and skin look healthy. For optimal results, drink at least eight cups of water a day.
- Eat healthy – the most important nutrients reach your skin through the bloodstream. Try to avoid foods with too much sugar and over-processing, this can cause more damage than good.
Establishing routines can take time and requires an active effort on your part.
Appling lotion to your entire body will help your skin in the long run—even if you don’t realize it now.
In fact, taking care of your body from the inside out is important especially if you are looking to maintain a youthful appearance, not to mention optimal health.
