Do you know how to comb your hair? Like, the right way!! In fact, there is an art to combing hair.
Truth is, you don’t just take a brush or comb and plow through your hair like a farm machine sifting through a wheat field.
And, if you currently brush or comb your hair in that manner, then just know you’re doing more harm to your lovely locks than you are clearly aware of.
In reality, there is a specific way to comb your hair, especially if you want natural, shiny hair. As a matter of fact, I only learned this after I damaged my hair really bad as a teenager.
Follow these three simple steps when combing your hair if you want strong, silky locks.
How To Comb Your Hair in 3 Steps
1. Choose your comb wisely.
Rule number one, combs are better than brushes. If you can stick to combing your hair, I’d highly recommend it.
Years ago when I was nursing my hair back to a healthy shine, I threw out my brushes and began using a comb only. I noticed a drastic reduction in frizzies and my hair actually became straighter so I have been combing my hair ever since.
If your hair is prone to tangling then you may have to use a brush once in the morning. Use a paddle brush; this is the best option for pretty much any hair type. It helps to detangle hair but is still gentle because the teeth of the brush are further apart and not too thick.
2. Try not to comb your hair when it’s wet.
Combing or brushing your hair when it’s wet can cause major breakage because dampness weakens the hair shaft. If you’re in a hurry, pin back your wet locks into a low ponytail using a wide-tooth comb.
However, if you are air drying your hair, then I recommend combing your hair very gently with a plastic comb to help it dry straight.

Remember, it’s all about creating a healthy hair routine that you will be able to repeat day after day.
3. Comb your hair from the ends to the top of the scalp.
Every little girl is programmed to think that hair should be brushed from the scalp downward, but that’s not the case.
Brushing your hair from the bottom up is the right way to do it and may feel unnatural at first.
Starting from the ends allows you to tackle tangles along the hair shaft without increasing the risk of pulling your hair follicle out of its root.
Begin at the bottom of your hair, separate it into horizontal sections and brush each layer one at a time until your #luvlylonglocks are silky smooth.
Develop An Easy, Healthy Hair Care Routine
Healthy hair begins at the scalp. That’s why it’s important to drag the oils from your scalp through the rest of your hair. These oils are considered ‘healthy oils’ and they actually strengthen your hair, not weight it down.
If this is a habit you begin to implement, take photos along the way and send them to www.LuvlyLongLocks.com so it can be shared with other ladies trying to achieve the same goal.
