Hi Laura, it’s awesome to get a chance to chat with you. I love the vivid color work you post to your Instagram account @Lauradoesmyhair! How long have you been in the hair care business?
I’ve been licensed nearly 11 years now.
What are some of the hair trends you’re asked to do the most and what is your signature hairstyle?
My signature work would be my color work. I love working with vivid hair color and hair painting. I also spent 5 years doing weddings with a bridal styling team in Reno/Tahoe. I love that the industry is versatile and you can find a new niche if you’re feeling bored!
Your color work is amazing! Would you say you specialize in color, cut or style and do you style all hair types, hair textures and hair lengths?
I specialize in color, and yes I work with all types of textures and lengths.
That’s great to know. So, you’re a stylist at Halo Salon in Reno, Nevada, and they specialize in extensions, precision hair cutting, color from natural to mermaid, and formal styling. What type of hair extensions, like clip-ins, tape-ins, weaves, pre-bonded, fusion, and micro-link, do you use on a regular basis?
I am trained in fusion, hand-tied row extensions, and micro-link extensions.
What styling tools are your go-to?
The 1-1/4 inch iron from Hot Tools is my go to iron for most styles. I also create textured waves using my flat iron.
I love textured waves! They’re incredibly romantic. I wish I knew how to create textured waves using my hair iron, which is why I keep my hair straight most of the time. So then, what products do you like to use on your clients? Why?
I use Unite Haircare line for my clients’ styling needs. I find their product line to be top-of-the-line as well as ethically produced.
I like that you are conscious of using products that are ethically produced, that’s really cool. Do you have your own line of hair or beauty products?
Nope, not yet.
We have a lifetime to achieve our goals, I like that you said, “not yet.” What beauty tip are you asked about the most?
How to create textured waves!
Yeah, I seriously wish I knew as well. Okay, I’m curious… Keeping in mind that everyone should consult their doctor before taking certain vitamins or supplements thought to cure, ease, strengthen or enhance one’s health or appearance, what vitamin or supplement do you recommend for thinning hair?
Biotin, plus getting a blood panel done by your doctor to determine if your hormones are off or if you’re lacking in vitamins.
I have to tell you, I take a couple of Biotin pills three days a week and it really made a difference in making my hair grow quicker. So, which common drugstore hair-dye brand do you recommend for touch-ups at home?
I don’t know about any color line sold in a drug store. I would talk to your stylist and see what they recommend.
Good point. What is your number one hair care tip or warning?
Don’t cut your hair if you’re going through an emotional or stressful time in your life.
You know what, that is really good advice. I recently read an article about this very subject. Now, you’ve been in this industry for more than a decade, do you hold any certifications and/or awards?
I was nominated for Behind The Chair (BTC) One Shot awards, and certified in SHE Hair extensions.
Congrats on being nominated for BTC’s One Shot awards, that’s such an honor! Do you work out of the salon and are you available for on-location bookings, either locally or out of state?
I work out of a salon, and for the right booking I would be available for travel.
